Cheers the Band has had the honor of performing at some of the most beautiful venues in the country, while also being privileged to entertain some very notable corporate clients as well. These three links will take you to lists of venues in which we have performed, as well as to non-wedding clients for whom we have played and entertainment bureaus through which we have worked since 1992. In addition to the performances featured on these links and our front page, we are proud to say that we have entertained at many other high-profile events. Some are noted below.
Political figures for whom we have performed include former Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell (now Governor of Pennsylvania) who we entertained more than once, most recently at the Scheie Eye Institute's Gala Fundraiser Ball at the Bellevue Hotel hosted by Dick Clark. Rendell also attended the Core State Bike Race events, for which Cheers had the pleasure of providing music for three consecutive years. The Honorable William Swain Lee, judge on the notorious Capano murder trial and now Delaware's Republican gubernatorial candidate, hired us for his daughter's wedding and is a regular at Cheers events as well as a good friend. We also worked for Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering's (President Clinton's law firm) annual holiday party for three consecutive years. Former Reform Party Presidential candidate and New York/Atlantic City real estate tycoon Donald Trump frequently enjoyed Cheers performances in Atlantic City. We also were proud to be the official inaugural band for former Bethlehem Mayor Don Cunningham (now Secretary of General Services in Rendell's cabinet). After we "rocked the house" at his Inaugural Ball, held at the historic Hotel Bethlehem, the music-loving mayor was so impressed with us that he asked us two months later to sport green hats for his famed St. Patrick's Day party.
As an opening act, Cheers has had many successes. We were delighted to open for the Atlantic City appearances of such celebrities as Jay Leno, David Brenner and Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine. We have also opened for such dynamic high-energy groups as Sister Sledge, the Trammps and the Dells.
Cheers' charismatic live performances seem to attract the attention of stars in the audience, and our shows have been enjoyed by such luminaries as Howie Mandel (who became a regular visitor and good friend), Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Racquel Welch, Don Johnson, Harry Belafonte, Rodney Dangerfield and Marla Maples. Country music star David Allen Coe and pop star John Waite ("MissingYou") have also made a point of attending Cheers performances.
At the Slam Dunk To The Beach, Cheers has perfomed at USA Today's and ESPN's Number One-ranked high school basketball tournament. We have performed at this event every year since 1992 ('92-'03). This event has been covered nationally by USA Today and ESPN as well as many other forms of sports and news media. It was at this event that Cheers performed for College Basketball Hall of Famers Mike Krzyzewski (Duke coach) and Denny Crum (Louisville), as well as NBA Hall of Famer Wesley Unseld and former NBA great Jeff Ruland. Some of the players who have appeared with Cheers at the Slam Dunk have gone on to NBA careers. They include Jermaine O'Neal (Indiana), Lebron James (Cleveland), Carmelo Anthony (Denver), Tyson Chandler (Chicago), Al Harrington (Atlanta), DeShawn Stevenson (Orlando), Samuel Dalembert (Philadelphia), Jason Collins (New Jersey), Jarron Collins (Utah), Jonathan Bender (Indiana), Speedy Claxton (Golden State), TJ Ford (Milwaukee), Tayshaun Prince (Detroit), Rodney White (Los Angeles Clippers), Rasual Butler (New Orleans), John Salmons (Philadelphia), Jamal Sampson (Sacremento), DerMarr Johnson (Denver), Dwight Howard (Orlando), Nate Robinson (New York), Eddie Griffin (Minnesota) and former NBA players Ouismane Sisse, Jay Williams, Kenny Satterfield, Mark Karcher, Ryan Humphrey, Roger Mason and Joe Forte.
Cheers has also performed in front of numerous other sports stars. Among them are Phil Esposito (NHL Hall of Fame), Franco Harris (NFL Hall of Fame), former 76ers President Pat Croce, former NBA star Tom Burleson, Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Bill Parcells, St. Louis Rams star Jason Sehorn, former New York Giants players Ottis "OJ" Anderson (NFL Rookie Of The Year & Super Bowl MVP), Joe Morris, Leonard Marshall, Perry Williams and Andre White, and NASCAR stars Jason Keller and Jimmie Spencer.
Cheers the Band also was selected to be the first band to perform on the stage of the Khoury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC., which at the time was the largest convention center on the East Coast. Cheers has performed for the Miss America Pagaent and also recently performed for a NASCAR Winston Cup Sponsors Event at Dover Downs Speedway. On December 31, 2003, we celebrated being the first band chosen to bring in the New Year in the Event Center at the spectacular Borgata Casino's Event Center in Atlantic City.
