The Cheers The Band Lumber Kings won their ninth championship in as many seasons when their opponent in the finals, Home Run Tavern, forfeited the third and final game. Cheers took the best-of-five series 3 - 0. The Kings have won championships in every year of their existence. From 1999 - 2003 they won championships in the Atlantic City Men's Softball League (ACMSL). This year's title is their sixth in AC. They did not enter a team in AC in 2004. They also won titles in the now-defunct Absecon Men's Night League from 1999 - 2002, winning simultaneously in AC - six titles in three years. . Bob Merlino (six hits), Luis Cruz (home run, 12 total bases) and Josh Nixon (five hits, home run) shared the Series MVP.

Josh Nixon hit a 375-foot home run in addition to a triple as the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings defeated Home Run Tavern 17 - 12. Bob Merlino, Matt Dilks, Steph Harden and Dave Dilks contributed three hits apiece as Cheers took a 2-games-to-0 lead in their best-of-five championship series. Jim Gallagher, Nick Trofa, Luis Cruz, Kevin Canale and Don Kreutzer joined Nixon with two hits each.

Bob Merlino, Josh Nixon, Nick Trofa and Luis Cruz had three hits each to help the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings win a 15 - 14 squeaker over Home Run Tavern in the first game of their best-of-five championship series. Cruz was only a single away from completing the cycle as he had a double, triple and home run. Matt Dilks and Steph Harden (triple) added two hits each for the Kings.

The Cheers The Band Lumber Kings scored fourteen runs while getting four homers from Julien Greene, Bob Merlino, Steph Harden and Billy Cressman in the first inning to set the tone for a 26 - 23 victory over Top Notch in their first round series. Luis Cruz's second inning homer put the Lumber Kings at the 5-homer limit in the second inning of the slugfest. Josh Nixon went 5-for-5 while Jim Gallagher joined Merlino, Harden and Cruz with four hits each. Nick Trofa joined Greene and Cressman with three hits apiece. Harden had five RBI's while Merlino and Greene had four each to help the Kings close out the series 2 - 0. Freddie Hubbard had two hits. Luis Cruz (6-8, 2 HR's, 6 RBI's, 5 runs) was named series MVP.

Monday 8/22/05
Julien Greene and Luis Cruz each hit home runs while Jim Gallagher, Bob Merlino, Josh Nixon and Kevin Canale had three hits apiece to lead the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings to a 15 - 2 drubbing of Top Notch in the first game of the first round of playoffs. Steph Harden and Billy Cressman joined Greene and Cruz with two hits each. Greene led Cheers with four RBI's, while superb defense and Merlino's pitching kept Top Notch off balance.

Luis Cruz hit a homer, double and single while Matt Dilks had two triples and a double to pace the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings to a 10 - 8 decision over Comcast Cable in the final game of the regular season. Bob Merlino, Julien Greene, Nick Trofa and Don Kreutzer added two hits each as the Lumber Kings close the season with a 13-game winning streak and a 20 - 2 record.

Bob Merlino and Julien Greene slugged a pair of round-trippers each and Josh Nixon added another as the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings routed second-place Home Run Tavern 14 - 4 by hitting the home run limit. Jim Gallagher, Nick Trofa and Greene had three hits apiece to help the Lumber Kings win their twelfth straight game. Merlino and Nixon were joined by Billy Cressman, Kenny Barber and Jimmy Morales with two hits each as Cheers improved their record to 19 - 2.

Freddie Hubbard hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to score Matt Dilks from second base as the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings defeated likely first round opponent Top Notch 3-2. After allowing two runs in the first, pitcher Bill Liepe shut out the Top Notch offense the rest of the way. Liepe was supported by spectacular defense by Hubbard at third and sterling defensive contributions from Charlie Seitchick in right and Kevin Canale at short. Luis Cruz and Josh Nixon joined Hubbard with two hits each to help the Kings clinch first place and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Cheers won its eleventh consecutive game and are now 18 - 2.

The Cheers The Band Lumber Kings won their season-high tenth straight game by forfeit over Fox Rothschild. The Lumber Kings have now clinched at least second place and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They stand alone at the top of the A Division with a 17-2 record.

The Cheers The Band Lumber Kings hit the 5-home run limit in their 14-4 victory over Tilton Inn. Luis Cruz hit two homers while Julien Greene, Josh Nixon and Kevin Canale each had one of their own. Cruz and Greene had three hits apiece while Jim Gallagher, Nick Trofa and Don Kreutzer joined Nixon with two each. This is the ninth consecutive win for Cheers. The Lumber Kings are now 16 - 2 on the season.

Luis Cruz hit a home run to help the Cheers The Band Lumber Kings to a 16-6 triumph over Robert's Place. Bob Merlino, Julien Greene and Josh Nixon joined Cruz with three hits each as Cheers became the first team to clinch a playoff spot. Steph Harden, Nick Trofa, Steve Marcelli, Freddie Hubbard and Don Kreutzer had two hits apiece. The Kings are now 15 - 2 on the season.

Bob Merlino had three hits, including a homer, as the Kings opened up their lead over second place in the A Division to two games. Julien Greene had a homer and two doubles, while Luis Cruz banged out four safeties to help Cheers to a league-leading 13-2 record. Pitchers Charlie Seitchick and Mark Toback combined for the shutout. Billy Cressman and Dave Dilks had four hits each while Julien Greene, Josh Nixon and Matt Dilks had three apiece. Nixon hit his ninth home run of the season. Toback, Jim Gallagher and Luis Cruz had two hits each to help the Kings maintain their league-leading 12 - 2 record. Cheers won its fifth consecutive game as they finish their inter-division schedule.

Julien Greene, Matt Dilks, Nick Trofa, Freddie Hubbard and Don Kreutzer joined Cruz with two hits apiece in the inter-division matchup. The Lumber Kings lead the A Division with the best record in the league (11-2).
